Hello from Austria
« on: April 18, 2020, 02:36:28 pm »
Hello
I got my wing (Duotone 5m) and foil (Gong XXL) last year but no board --> should be coming in may. So last year I tested with my sup on the lake. That was ok but once you have the hang of it a bit boring. So I screwed the foil to a board for pump testing --> turned out to be short jumping and a lot of swimming :)

I started years ago with Windsurfing but never to serious. Then with kites I did a course once and tried a bit but never had time, and around here with the lakes its a bit more dificult to learn without the constant wind and space you have at some beaches. So as I saw these wings, I thought that might work better, not so big gear (put it in the car and go after work). I started at the kite spot at the lake and that was quite easy compared to the kiters which have to waterstart there.

At the moment I am on my last days of corona quarentine (was like a flue and was over in a couple of days). The only watersport this year until now was this :)

Love the skimboarding session - looks fun!!!!
That setup should be good on a lake. Your windsurfing / kitesurfing experience should help knowing how to handle the wing, but it's the foil that you need to master, so if you get a chance to be towed behind a boat a few times to get used to the foil that will help you loads.
Have fun  :) :) :) :)

Just a little update on my personal progress for your interest.

As I got my kit together (Duotone 2020 7m, Indiana 6.0, Gong XXL Foil) I started to learn this.

1. Session: no wind, bit of wind, learned how to sit on the board and hold the wing to get back
Wing can get heavy if you have nearly no wind and you have to hold it all the time.
2. Session: just not enough wind to get me out of the water but good for handling practice of the wing (standing)
3. Session: without wing, but bungee and River --> first flights kneeling on the board
This was actually simulating the idea of being pulled by a boat (as I don't have access to one)
4. Session: a bit more wind (12 - 15 kts) with gusts I got on the foil for seconds and crashed
5. Session: Perfect wind (15-18 kts) after some first crashes I got up on the foil and could keep going straight - big smile

Next:
improve my pumping (board and/or wing)
Turn around without falling.

Great sport, I can put it all in my car, carry all the kit in one go, Pump the board an Wing and ready for fun :)
