Duotone Echo 7 - unboxing
« on: May 11, 2020, 05:21:50 pm »
I got my Duotone Echo 7qm today, and I only had time to unpack it quick in the garden before the rain came. The wind would have been good but lightning and water don't go well :)

So this is not a review but I thought that some of you might like to see some pictures:

In the bag you get the wing (I did not get it so small when I put it back) and the repair kit

Comparison with a 2019 5qm from the front ...

from the top …

and from the side

It is definitely wise to practice flipping over with a smaller wing first.

… and some more details.

First thing that was a bit strange while pumping it up was the boom against the leading edge. The boom could actually be less curved and makes a dent into the leading edge on the canopy side

here you see it from a different angle (not fully pumped and i did not have the boom in the Center)
Additional you see the extra deflation valve and beside the other valve a zip for access to the bladder

The other side of the boom has also changed, makes it easier to rig

And a comparison of the booms (left=old, right=new)
It would be nice if they would just write the overall length. Instead you have the add the length of the fixed bit together with the variable side. The writing is also better to read on the old one (black writing)

It would help make it clearer if the boom was in the centre and the leading edge was fully inflated.  The boom has to work with the 4m and the 7m, and I expect that the 7m is a larger diameter leading edge than the 4m?

I would expect Duotone to have designed the 4m to 7m wings to match that boom, but the other problem they have is that the 5m and 4m also have to match the shorter boom for the 3.3m and 2.6m wings.

The boom is always on the rider side of the leading edge. And on the first photo it is fully inflated to 6 psi. (on the second one not)

I had a quick try the other way round as I was not sure anymore, but that does not work with the blue ropes for attaching the boom. And you are probably right that it might prevent it from twisting when it fits snug - either because it just fits right on the 4m or digs in on the 7m
