I like the look of the 4'8 wing board but have been warned against a double concave bottom shape. Apparently they stick and cause a breaking effect on touchdown. Anyone got any experience with this type of thing?

Somebody know wich are the differences between the 2019 Duotone Wing and the new 2020 Echo?

Thanks in advance!

From what I can see from pics and the vidoes:

1) They have a "trim" line that keeps the Profile stable now and allows some tuning.  This is much better the floating profile they had on the first wing.

2)  They changed the Outline and reduced the anheadral.  This should give it more power and make it more stable.

3) Looks like they stiffened up the Boom Connection point.

I have not tried them yet, so this is just guessing from what I can see.

As the guy who actually came up with that double concave keel shape for SUP Foil boards I can tell you the following:  I decided to put that keel in there to keep the short Indiana ProFoil supboards paddling straight.   They however made the Boards stick when trying to paddle/pump up onto the foil.  For winging you actually only notice that stickiness in really light wind where you are using the pumping more than the wing to get up and flying.

Regarding the Fanatic board.  It will absorb the impact from touching down, but it will stick a little and it will also start tracking in the direction it touched down.

So simple flat bottom ( no concaves) best for high speed touchdowns ( eg in big swell DW ) and for early release in lighter winds ?

Thanks Gunnar...I actually have the Duotone 2019 4.0 wing and I'm wondering if it's worth to buy the new one or to keep it one season more...

I am pretty sure that you should upgrade. It looks like they addressed most of the issues that the 2019 Wings had, and so it should be a lot easier to ride with.

Directional stability makes a lot of sense, but I'm not convinced that the payoff is worth it. The hardest thing for me about SUP foiling (especially downwinding) is the pop-up. Surely the more help you can get from your board shape here the better. Bear in mind I'm relatively new to all this and am NOT a board designer, so I'm happy to be proven wrong ;)

This is a link to a video sent me by Jimmy Lewis that shows how a deep double concave hull causes a board to slow down so dramatically on touchdown that it throws the rider 'over the handlebars' so to speak. I've attached a picture below that shows the board's hull shape

Yesterday (Lowwind 8-14 knots) and this morning ( stronger Winds 12-20 knots ) I checked out the new Echo wing 5m ( my weight 64 Kg )
It have a lot of Power, pums very well and give you a good speed to come up on the foil. The only thing in my opinion is, when you depower the wing in ( full power option ) it start to push against you ( i would call it frontstall )  This never happend to me on the F-one Swing
In the stronger wind i trimmed the wing a flatter profile and it was much better and faster.
I never tryed  the first version of the duotone wing.
